This is a 45 x 26 cm. (18 x 10 in.) framed print of the poem The Pioneers of the Northwest composed by W.E. McCroskey. It is unclear whether Mr. McCroskey had a relationship with the organization or whether the poem was chosen because of the subject. The framed print has a note in the frame that states: "Presented by Colfax Chapter No. 16, D.P.W. Sept. 30, 1949." There is a label on the back of the frame that states: "1949, Daugthers of the Pioneers of Washington, Loaned by Colfax Chapter, #16." It unclear about the circumstances for the presentation or loan of the print.

Daughters of the Pioneers was formed prior to 1870 under a different name. In 1922 the Association was renamed "The Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington" to include members whose parents or grandparents had come to the Northwest by that date. The Constitution of the Association had stated that when six Chapters had been formed, the Association would incorporate, and in 1936 this was accomplished.
